Lottery Atlas is an independent results site, not the West Virginia Lottery. This guide covers the state's games and rules and where to check results.
What is the West Virginia Lottery's official website?
It's wvlottery.com. That's where you'll find game rules, scratch-off prizes remaining, claim instructions and promotions, and it's the source to trust when confirming a winning ticket. This site's West Virginia results page shows recent draws for the state's games, pulled from an automated results feed, with a page for each draw and full draw histories as CSV downloads.
West Virginia is also one of the states where the lottery sells tickets directly online, through its iPlay platform, to people who are physically inside the state. The iLottery state-by-state guide compares it with other states, and courier apps are a separate thing.
What games does the West Virginia Lottery offer?
The multi-state draw games are the same drawings sold in other states, so the numbers in West Virginia match everywhere else:
- Powerball: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 PM ET, $2 a play, plus $1 for Power Play.
- Mega Millions: Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 PM ET, $5 a play with a multiplier built into every ticket.
- Lotto America: $1 a play (plus $1 for the All Star Bonus), drawn Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:15 PM ET in 15 states and D.C.; see how to play Lotto America.
- Millionaire for Life: $5 a play, drawn nightly at 11:15 PM ET, with a top prize of $1 million a year for life. West Virginia is one of the 31 lotteries listed on the official game page. It replaced Lucky for Life and Cash4Life in February 2026 (what changed).
West Virginia's own draw games are Cash 25, a small-jackpot lotto game of the kind described in Cash 5 and Fantasy 5 explained, and the digit games Daily 3 and Daily 4, which work like the straight and box plays in Pick 3 and Pick 4 payouts.
Scratch-offs print their odds on the ticket. Before buying, it's worth checking the official site's list of prizes remaining for each game; how scratch-off tickets work explains why.
Rules for playing and claiming in West Virginia
You must be 18 to buy lottery tickets in West Virginia; casino gaming in the state requires you to be 21. Age rules in other states are in lottery age requirements.
Draw-game prizes generally have to be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. Deadlines can differ by game, especially for scratch-offs, so check the back of the ticket or the game rules on wvlottery.com. The general process is in how to claim a lottery prize.
For prizes over $5,000, the Lottery withholds 24% for federal tax, as required by the IRS instructions for Form W-2G; non-resident aliens are generally withheld at 30%. West Virginia also taxes lottery winnings as income and withholds state tax on larger prizes. The state has been cutting its income tax rates, so confirm the current withholding rate with the Lottery when you claim. The state lottery tax table has more.
On privacy, we couldn't confirm a West Virginia law that lets lottery winners keep their names confidential, so the state isn't on the confirmed list in the state guide to anonymous winners. If you win a large prize, ask the Lottery what it will make public before you claim.
Lottery profits are appropriated by the West Virginia Legislature, with education, senior services and tourism among the main beneficiaries.
Playing across the Virginia and West Virginia border
Many people live near the line and play both, but they're separate lotteries with different rules. A ticket has to be claimed in the state that sold it, under that state's deadline and withholding. See buying lottery tickets in another state, and for the other side of the border, the Virginia Lottery website guide.
