Lottery Atlas is an independent results site with no connection to the Virginia Lottery. We have no access to anyone's Virginia Lottery account. This page explains what the official site and its login are for, and which tasks don't need an account at all.
What can you do on the official Virginia Lottery website?
The Virginia Lottery's online play page lists these draw games for purchase through an account: Powerball, Mega Millions, Millionaire for Life, Cash 5, Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5. It also offers digital instant-style games and Print 'n Play games. Millionaire for Life replaced Cash4Life, which ended nationally in February 2026, so older guides that list Cash4Life are out of date. How Virginia compares with other states is covered in our iLottery state-by-state guide.
Behind the login you also manage deposits, withdrawals and purchase history. Without logging in you can browse Scratchers (including games that are closing soon), find a retailer and read prize-claim rules.
The site and app also handle prize claims. Under the Virginia Lottery's claim rules:
- Prizes up to $600 can be cashed at a Virginia Lottery retailer.
- Prizes of $5,000 or less can be claimed in the Virginia Lottery app.
- Prizes over $600 can be claimed at a customer service center or by mail. There are eight centers: two in Richmond (Lottery headquarters and Prize Zone West), plus Harrisonburg, Hampton, Abingdon, Roanoke, Woodbridge and Farmville. They're open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
How does the Virginia Lottery login work?
The login is for your online-play account. The Virginia Lottery's online gaming rules say a player must be at least 18 and must be physically inside Virginia both when depositing money and when buying a game. If you're travelling out of state, purchases will be blocked even though you can still log in from elsewhere. General age rules for other states are in who can play the lottery.
Forgotten passwords and locked accounts are handled through the reset option on valottery.com or by the Virginia Lottery's player support. No outside website can fix them for you.
Be careful with links. Type valottery.com into your browser or use the official app rather than following a link in an email or text message. Fake lottery login pages and "you've won, verify your account" messages are a common scam, described in our lottery scam guide.
Do you need a login to check Virginia Lottery results?
No. Winning numbers are public. The official site shows them without a login, and our Virginia lottery results page lists every Virginia draw game, including Cash 5, Bank a Million, Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5 and the daily Cash Pop draws, alongside Powerball and Mega Millions. Our results come from a commercial data feed checked every two minutes, so confirm a winning ticket with the Virginia Lottery before you act on it. Other places results appear are listed in where Virginia Lottery results are posted.
How long do you have to claim a Virginia Lottery prize?
Draw-game tickets expire 180 days after the drawing, according to the Virginia Lottery's claim page. Print 'n Play games expire 180 days after purchase.
On prizes over $5,000 the Lottery withholds 24% for federal income tax and 4% for Virginia state tax. The 24% rate comes from the IRS instructions for Form W-2G. Withholding isn't the final bill: a large prize can push you into the top 37% federal bracket, and you settle the difference when you file. See lottery tax rates by state.
Virginia winners can now stay anonymous. The claim page says that as of July 1, 2026, a new Virginia law lets winners claim prizes anonymously; the Lottery won't make the winner's details public without written permission. Earlier rules were narrower. Our anonymous winners guide compares Virginia with other states, and the full claim process is in how to claim a lottery prize.
Since 1999 all Virginia Lottery profits have gone to K-12 public education in the state, according to the Lottery.
